Symposium Rules & Regulations

Thank you for choosing Symposium Talent! Our goal is to provide a positive, organized, and

professional event where every dancer has the opportunity to perform, grow, and create lasting

memories.

Participation in any Symposium Talent event signifies acceptance of these Rules & Regulations.

SCHEDULE

Symposium Talent reserves the right to adjust the competition schedule, session times, event dates, or venue as necessary to accommodate entry numbers, venue requirements, unforeseencircumstances, or other operational needs.

Regional events may begin on Friday, and National events may begin on Tuesday and/or

Wednesday, if additional competition days are needed.

A tentative schedule, including approximate performance times, will be posted no later than five (5)

days before the event. Performance times are estimates and may change throughout the

competition.

Studios should arrive early and have dancers ready to perform at least one (1) hour before their

scheduled performance time. Upon arrival, studios must check in with the Stage Manager.

All routines will perform in the published order unless otherwise directed by the Stage Manager.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to run ahead of or behind schedule. Studios are responsible for

ensuring dancers are present and ready to perform when called. Failure to do so may result in the

routine being skipped.

PHOTO & VIDEO

To protect the privacy and safety of participating dancers and to respect the intellectual property of

studios and choreographers, personal photography and video recording of performances are

strictly prohibited unless expressly authorized by Symposium Talent.

Photography is permitted during awards ceremonies only.

Any individual found photographing or recording performances without authorization may be required

to stop immediately, may be asked to leave the venue, and/or may cause the associated routine or

studio to receive adjudication only or be subject to additional disciplinary action at the sole discretion

of Symposium Talent.

It is the responsibility of each studio owner, director, teacher, and designated representative to

communicate this policy to all dancers, parents, family members, and guests attending the event.

Professional photography and videography will be provided by Symposium Talent’s official media

team and will be available for purchase following the event for a limited time.

If an official photographer or videographer is unavailable at a particular event, Symposium Talent

may, at its sole discretion, authorize one (1) designated representative per studio to photograph or

record performances from a location designated by Symposium Talent. Such authorization applies

only to that event and does not waive or modify this policy for future events.

ENTRY PROCESS, REGISTRATION, PAYMENT & DEADLINES

Entries are accepted and processed in the order they are received. Registration will remain open until

the event reaches capacity or the published registration deadline, whichever occurs first. Symposium

Talent reserves the right to close registration at any time once an event has reached capacity.

Entry fees, discounts, and available pricing may be viewed through the Symposium Talent online

registration system after creating a studio account.

Symposium Talent does not accept independent entries. All participants must be registered through

an established dance studio.

The studio owner, director, teacher, or authorized representative is expected to be present during the

competition. If unable to attend, the studio must designate another responsible adult to act on behalf

of the studio throughout the event.

Photogenic entries should be registered prior to the start of the competition. Photos must be

submitted in digital format to photogenic@symposiumtalent.com and include the dancer’s name,

age, studio name, and whether the entry is for a Still Shot or Action Shot.

Please observe all published registration and payment deadlines. Deadlines are essential to allow

Symposium Talent sufficient time for scheduling, staffing, awards preparation, event planning, and

production. All deadlines are firm.

Advance Registration Discounts

Symposium Talent rewards studios that plan ahead. To encourage early registration and assist with

event planning, Symposium offers discounted registration rates for studios that both register and pay

in full by the applicable deadlines.

 10% Advance Registration Discount: Registration and full payment must be received by

Symposium Talent 90 or more days prior to the first day of the competition.

 5% Advance Registration Discount: Registration and full payment must be received by

Symposium Talent 45 or more days prior to the first day of the competition.

 Studios attending multiple Symposium Talent regional competitions may also qualify for Multi-

Event Discounts in accordance with Symposium Talent’s current pricing structure.

​**Advance registration discounts are earned only when both the registration and

full payment are received by the applicable deadline. Registering by the deadline

without submitting full payment does not qualify for discounted pricing. Discounts

cannot be applied retroactively and will not be honored if payment is received after

the applicable deadline, regardless of when the registration was submitted.​**

Registration Deadline

The standard registration deadline is twenty-one (21) days prior to the first day of the competition

unless the event reaches capacity sooner.

Entries received fewer than fourteen (14) days prior to the competition may not appear in the printed

program.

Payment Policy

All registration fees must be received in full by Symposium Talent no later than twenty-one (21)

days prior to the first day of the competition unless otherwise approved in writing by Symposium

Talent.

Payment deadlines are based on the date payment is received by Symposium Talent, not the

date payment is initiated, mailed, or postmarked.

Accepted methods of payment are:

 Credit Card through the DanceBUG Registration System

 Credit Card by calling the Symposium Talent office

 Cashier’s Check

Studios choosing to pay by Cashier’s Check should allow adequate delivery time. Cashier’s Checks must be sent via USPS Priority Mail, FedEx, or UPS with tracking. Symposium Talent is not responsible for delays caused by the United States Postal Service or other delivery carriers. Payments received after the applicable deadline, regardless of the mailing date, will not qualify for advance registration discounts and may be subject to late fees or other

consequences outlined in these Rules and Regulations.

Studios with unpaid balances after the payment deadline may be removed from the competition

schedule, denied participation, or have awards, adjudications, photographs, videos, future

registrations, or other services withheld until all outstanding balances have been paid in full.

Late Registrations

Late registrations are accepted only if scheduling permits and the event has not reached capacity. All

late registrations must be paid in full by credit card at the time of registration and are subject to a $25

late fee per routine. 

Registration Changes 

Students or routines removed after the twenty-one (21) day registration deadline are considered a

Fair Scratch. No refunds or credits will be issued.

Requests to change a dancer’s age division, competitive level, entry type, category, or other

registration information after the registration deadline may be accommodated when possible and are

subject to Symposium Talent’s published change fee.

Credits

Credits issued by Symposium Talent are subject to the terms communicated at the time they are

issued. Unless otherwise specified, credits are non-refundable, non-transferable, have no cash value,

and may only be used in accordance with their stated terms and expiration date.

Credits may not be applied toward Title Entries, Photogenic Entries, Superstar Entries, Star

Entertainer Entries, merchandise, admission, or any other items specifically excluded by Symposium

Talent.

Awards

All awards must be claimed before the conclusion of the event. Symposium Talent does not mail

awards and is not responsible for unclaimed awards after the event.

ADJUDICATION

All adjudications, placements, special awards, overall awards, and competition results are determined

solely by the official judges selected by Symposium Talent. Judges are experienced dance

professionals chosen for their qualifications and, to the best of Symposium Talent’s knowledge, are

not directly affiliated with any studio competing at the event.

Participants, parents, teachers, studio owners, directors, and studio representatives acknowledge and

agree that the judging process, scoring system, adjudications, placements, awards, tie-breaking

procedures, and all competition results are conducted at the sole discretion of Symposium Talent and

its appointed judges. All decisions of the judges and Symposium Talent are final.

The scores, critiques, rankings, and comments provided by the judges represent their independent

professional opinions and evaluations and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Symposium

Talent, its owners, directors, employees, or staff.

In the event of a tie, Symposium Talent will apply its established tie-breaking procedures. All tie-

breaking decisions are final.

Parents, dancers, teachers, studio representatives, and spectators are prohibited from approaching,

confronting, questioning, or attempting to influence any judge regarding scores, adjudications,

placements, critiques, awards, or competition results before, during, or after the event.

Any questions regarding scoring, adjudications, placements, awards, or critiques must be directed

exclusively to the Competition Director or another designated Symposium Talent representative.

Scores, adjudications, critiques, placements, and awards are considered confidential and will only be

discussed with the registered studio owner, director, or an authorized studio representative

designated by the studio. Symposium Talent will not discuss competition results with parents,

dancers, or other individuals without authorization from the registered studio.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to correct clerical, tabulation, mathematical, or administrative

errors discovered before, during, or after an event. Any necessary corrections will be made at the

sole discretion of Symposium Talent and shall not constitute grounds for protest, appeal, or additional

compensation.

Symposium Talent does not permit formal protests or appeals regarding judges’ opinions, scores,

adjudications, placements, awards, critiques, or other subjective decisions. Participation in any

Symposium Talent event constitutes acceptance of the judges’ professional opinions and the finality

of all competition results.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to disqualify, deduct points, withhold awards, adjust placements,

or take any other action deemed appropriate if a participant, parent, teacher, studio representative, or

spectator violates these Rules and Regulations or engages in unsportsmanlike conduct, harassment,

intimidation, abusive behavior, or attempts to interfere with the judging process or the operation of the

competition.

APPROPRIATE PERFORMANCES

Symposium Talent is a family-friendly event. All performances, including choreography, music,

costumes, props, and overall presentation, should be appropriate for audiences of all ages and reflect

good taste and professionalism.

While artistic expression is encouraged, Symposium Talent recognizes that opinions regarding what

is considered appropriate may vary. The determination of whether a performance is appropriate for

competition shall rest solely with Symposium Talent and its appointed judges.

Judges may deduct points for performances they determine to contain inappropriate choreography,

music, costumes, gestures, language, themes, or other content that is not suitable for a family

audience.

Symposium Talent reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to deduct points, require modifications,

remove music, prohibit the use of costumes or props, classify a routine as adjudication only, disqualify

a performance, or take any other action deemed appropriate if a performance is determined to be

inappropriate, offensive, unsafe, unlawful, or inconsistent with the standards and values of

Symposium Talent.

Examples of inappropriate content may include, but are not limited to:

 Excessively suggestive or sexual choreography or costuming

 Vulgar, obscene, or explicit language or music

 Inappropriate gestures or movements

 Content promoting violence, illegal activity, discrimination, or hate

 Unsafe choreography, props, or staging that presents a risk to performers or others

 Any material that Symposium Talent reasonably determines would be offensive or unsuitable

for a family audience

All decisions regarding the appropriateness of a performance are final and are not subject to protest

or appeal.

GENERAL RULES & POLICIES

To ensure a safe, fair, and enjoyable experience for all participants, studios, and spectators, the

following policies apply to all Symposium Talent events.

 A routine may not compete in multiple entry categories at the same event. For example, a

group routine may not also compete as a solo, duet, or trio during the same competition.

 Any routine receiving 1st Overall at a Symposium Talent National Finals may not be entered in

a Symposium Talent Regional competition during the following competition season​.

 Coaching, signaling, prompting, or otherwise assisting performers from the audience,

backstage, or wings during a performance is strictly prohibited.

 The use of fire, open flames, pyrotechnics, smoke-producing devices, live animals, weapons,

or any hazardous materials is strictly prohibited.

 Glitter, loose confetti, baby powder, sand, water, paint, fog fluid, or any substance that could

damage the stage, create a slipping hazard, or require excessive cleanup may not be used

unless expressly approved in advance by Symposium Talent.

 For the safety of performers, judges, staff, and audience members, dancers may enter and exit

the stage only through the designated stage wings. Jumping from the front of the stage or

entering or exiting beneath stage curtains or from unauthorized locations is strictly prohibited.

 Parents, family members, and spectators are not permitted backstage unless specifically

authorized by Symposium Talent.

 Studios are responsible for the conduct of their dancers, parents, teachers, and guests

throughout the event. Unsportsmanlike conduct, disruptive behavior, harassment, intimidation,

verbal abuse, physical altercations, or failure to follow the directions of Symposium Talent staff

may result in penalties, removal from the venue, disqualification, forfeiture of awards, or refusal

of future participation.

 Solicitation or recruitment of dancers, teachers, or staff members from another studio while

attending a Symposium Talent event is strictly prohibited. Symposium Talent maintains a zero-

tolerance policy regarding this conduct. Any individual found engaging in solicitation or

recruitment may be removed from the venue and prohibited from attending future Symposium

Talent events.

 Symposium Talent reserves the right to refuse entry, remove any participant or spectator,

withhold awards, disqualify entries, or deny future participation to any individual or studio that

violates these Rules and Regulations or engages in conduct deemed detrimental to the safety,

integrity, reputation, or operation of the event.

 Symposium Talent reserves the right to interpret, modify, amend, add to, or delete any rule,

policy, procedure, or regulation at any time when deemed necessary to ensure the fair, safe,

and efficient operation of its events. Any such interpretation or decision by Symposium Talent

shall be final.

These Rules and Regulations have been established to protect the integrity of the competition,

promote fairness and sportsmanship, ensure the safety of all participants and spectators, and provide

a positive experience for everyone attending a Symposium Talent event.

CATEGORIES OF COMPETITION

ACRO

A routine that combines controlled acrobatic or gymnastic elements with dance technique. Acrobatic

skills should demonstrate strength, flexibility, balance, control, and fluid transitions while remaining

integrated into the choreography. Dance technique should remain a significant component of the

performance.

BALLET

A routine based primarily on classical ballet technique and vocabulary. Classical and contemporary

ballet styles are permitted provided the routine remains rooted in ballet fundamentals. Ballet shoes

are required.

CLOG

A routine dmonstrating traditional or contemporary clogging technique performed in clogging shoes.

Emphasis should be placed on rhythm, precision, footwork, timing, and musicality.

CONTEMPORARY

A routine that blends classical ballet technique with modern and contemporary movement.

Performances should emphasize expression, musical interpretation, balance, control, fluidity, and

technical execution while maintaining strong ballet fundamentals.

HIP HOP

A routine based primarily on hip hop or street dance styles. Styles may include, but are not limited to,

breaking, popping, locking, waving, house, krumping, funk, and commercial hip hop. Traditional jazz

technique should not be the primary style represented.

JAZZ

A routine demonstrating jazz dance technique, including classical jazz, contemporary jazz, jazz funk,

or commercial jazz. Emphasis should be placed on style, performance quality, technique, musicality,

and execution.

Routines consisting primarily of hip hop, popping, locking, or other street dance styles should be

entered in the Hip Hop category.

LYRICAL

A routine that interprets the lyrics, mood, and emotion of the music through expressive movement.

Lyrical routines should incorporate ballet, jazz, and modern dance

MUSICAL / SHOW

A theatrical routine inspired by Broadway, movie musicals, or stage productions. Lip syncing,

character portrayal, acting, comedy, and storytelling are encouraged. Judges will evaluate both

entertainment value and dance technique.

NOVELTY / CHARACTER

A routine centered around a recognizable character, theme, or concept. Characters may be historical,

fictional, animated, television, movie, animal, or fantasy inspired. Strong characterization and

entertainment value should be maintained throughout the performance.

OPEN

A routine that combines multiple dance styles or does not clearly fit within any other listed category.

Open is intended for performances that blend techniques or explore unique styles of movement.

POINTE

A ballet routine performed primarily en pointe that demonstrates classical ballet technique, strength,

balance, artistry, and technical precision. Pointe shoes are required.

TAP

A routine demonstrating tap technique, rhythm, timing, musicality, and clean tap execution. Tap

routines may be performed with or without music accompaniment.

Tap sounds may not be prerecorded or enhanced through recorded audio. Tap shoes are required.

Routines demonstrating primarily clogging technique should be entered in the Clog category.

VOCAL

A solo or duet vocal performance demonstrating vocal ability, musicality, and stage presence.

Performances must use musical accompaniment. Lead vocals are not permitted on the

accompaniment track; however, background vocals are allowed.

Symposium Talent provides up to two handheld microphones. Studios requiring a second

microphone should notify the Symposium office prior to the competition.

POM

A routine emphasizing traditional dance team pom technique. Choreography should include strong

arm placement, synchronization, marching, kicks, jumps, turns, splits, visual effects, formations, floor

work, and performance quality.

Pom pons must be used for at least 80% of the routine.

Presses, shoulder stands, pyramids, or similar partner stunts are strictly prohibited and will

result in disqualification. Tumbling is permitted provided performers are not holding pom

pons while tumbling.

PRECISION DANCE

A dance team style routine performed without pom pons. Choreography should emphasize

precision, synchronization, sharp arm movements, clean lines, formations, marching, kicks, leaps,

jumps, turns, and overall uniformity.

Strong visual formations and spacing are considered an essential component of this category.

MOST PHOTOGENIC (STILL SHOT)

Contestants must submit a recent digital color or black-and-white photograph.

Entries must be registered, and all applicable fees must be paid prior to the performance of the first

routine of the competition.

Photos should be emailed to photogenic@symposiumtalent.com and must include:

 Dancer’s Name

 Age

 Studio Name

 Indicate “Still Shot”

All entries compete in the Select performance level.

MOST PHOTOGENIC (ACTION SHOT)

Contestants must submit a recent digital action photograph.

Entries must be registered, and all applicable fees must be paid prior to the performance of the first

routine of the competition.

Photos should be emailed to photogenic@symposiumtalent.com and must include:

 Dancer’s Name

 Age

 Studio Name

 Indicate “Action Shot”

All entries compete in the Select performance level.

LEVELS OF COMPETITION

Symposium Talent offers four competitive performance levels designed to provide dancers with a fair

and positive competition experience. Studio owners and teachers are responsible for placing each

dancer and routine in the appropriate level based on the criteria below.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to review and reclassify any routine that has been entered into

an inappropriate level. All level placement decisions made by Symposium Talent are final.

FEARLESS LEVEL

The Fearless Level is designed to celebrate dancers with exceptional physical disabilities,

developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, medical conditions, or other special needs by

providing a positive and encouraging competition experience.

There are no age, training, or weekly class hour requirements for this level.

Fearless dancers may also compete in other performance levels if they choose. Participation in the

Fearless Level is entirely at the discretion of the studio owner or teacher.

 Fearless entries compete only against other Fearless entries.

 Fearless entries are judged using a modified adjudication scale designed to recognize

achievement and encourage participation.

 Fearless entries are eligible for cash awards unless otherwise noted.

 Duo/Trio and Group routines entered in the Fearless Level must include at least one registered

Fearless performer.

CLASSIC LEVEL

The Classic Level is intended for beginning and recreational dancers who are developing their

performance skills.

Typical Classic dancers:

 Have approximately three (3) years or less of dance training.

 Take a limited number of classes each week.

 Have little or no previous competition experience.

Classic routines should focus on age-appropriate technique and performance quality and should not

rely heavily on advanced technical elements.

Examples of advanced elements include, but are not limited to:

 Multiple consecutive turns (such as à la seconde or fouetté turns)

 Advanced tap skills (including toe stalls and wings)

 Advanced tumbling passes outside the Acro category

 Other advanced technical skills inconsistent with the Classic level

Routines containing an excessive number of advanced elements may be reclassified into the Select

Level at the discretion of Symposium Talent.

Classic entries compete only against other Classic entries, are judged using a modified adjudication

scale, and are not eligible for cash awards.

SELECT LEVEL

The Select Level is intended for intermediate dancers who have established technical training and

previous competition experience.

Typical Select dancers:

 Have approximately three (3) to five (5) years of dance training.

 Take approximately three (3) to five (5) hours of dance classes each week.

 Have previous competition experience.

Select routines may include advanced technical elements; however, routines that rely heavily on

advanced skills or demonstrate advanced overall proficiency may be reclassified into the Elite Level

at the discretion of Symposium Talent.

Select entries compete only against other Select entries and are eligible for cash awards.

ELITE LEVEL

The Elite Level is intended for advanced dancers with extensive technical training and significant

competition experience.

Typical Elite dancers:

 Have approximately five (5) or more years of dance training.

 Take approximately five (5) or more hours of dance classes each week.

 Consistently perform advanced technical skills and choreography.

Elite routines are expected to demonstrate advanced technique, strong execution, performance

quality, and technical difficulty throughout the routine.

Elite entries compete only against other Elite entries and are eligible for cash awards.

Dancers age four (4) and under are not eligible to compete in the Elite Level.

LEVEL PLACEMENT

Symposium Talent cannot verify the amount of training or weekly instruction each dancer receives.

Therefore, level placement is the responsibility of the studio owner, director, or teacher. Studios

are expected to place dancers honestly and in the spirit of fair competition.

Elite, Select, Classic, and Fearless entries are adjudicated and compete separately. Studio owners

should carefully evaluate each dancer’s technical ability, training, experience, and overall proficiency

when selecting a competition level.

Once the final competition schedule has been released, requests to change a routine’s competition

level will not be permitted except in extraordinary circumstances approved by Symposium Talent.

For Duo/Trio and Group routines containing dancers from multiple competitive levels, the routine will

compete based on the average competition level of the registered dancers unless otherwise

determined by Symposium Talent.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to review any routine before, during, or after the competition and

reclassify a routine if it determines that the routine has been entered into an inappropriate level. All

decisions regarding level placement are final.

ENTRY TYPES & AGE DIVISIONS

ENTRY TYPES

SOLO

One (1) dancer.

DUO/TRIO

Two (2) or three (3) dancers.

SMALL GROUP

Four (4) to nine (9) dancers.

LARGE GROUP

Ten (10) to fifteen (15) dancers.

LINE

Sixteen (16) or more dancers who are generally similar in age and competitive level.

PRODUCTION

Sixteen (16) or more dancers that may include a wide range of ages, abilities, and competitive levels.

Productions typically incorporate a theatrical theme, storyline, or production-style presentation.

PHOTOGENIC

Photogenic is considered a solo event and is divided into two categories:

 Still Shot

 Action Shot

Contestants may enter one or both categories.

Multiple photographs may be submitted in each category; however, only one (1) photograph per

contestant may place in each category.

Photogenic entries must be registered, paid in full, and submitted prior to the start of the competition

in accordance with Symposium Talent’s published submission guidelines.

Contestants must be present at the awards ceremony to receive awards and cash prizes unless prior

arrangements have been approved by Symposium Talent. Unclaimed awards and cash prizes will be

forfeited.

Symposium Talent does not mail awards, certificates, or cash prizes. Cash prizes are non-

transferable and may not be redeemed for registration credit or future event fees.

AGE DIVISIONS

 Mini: Eight (8) & Under

 Junior: Nine (9) to Twelve (12)

 Teen: Thirteen (13) to Fifteen (15)

 Senior: Sixteen (16) to Eighteen (18)

 Adult: Nineteen (19) & Over

For Duo/Trio and Group entries, the competitive age division is determined by the average age of all

performers. The average age is calculated by adding the ages of all dancers and dividing by the total

number of dancers. The Symposium Talent registration system automatically calculates the average

age based on the birthdates entered during registration.

Average ages are calculated to two (2) decimal places. Any average age containing a decimal

will be rounded up to the next whole number when determining the appropriate age division.

All ages are determined as of December 31 of the current competition season.

It is the responsibility of the registering studio to enter each dancer’s correct birthdate and age.

Incorrect age information or entry into an improper age division may result in the routine being

reclassified, adjudicated only, disqualified, or otherwise penalized at the sole discretion of Symposium

Talent.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to request proof of age for any participant at any time.

Acceptable proof of age includes a birth certificate, passport, driver’s license, state-issued

identification card, or other government-issued documentation. Failure to provide acceptable proof of

age upon request may result in disqualification.

The Adult age division is open to any participant who is nineteen (19) years of age or older,

including teachers, studio owners, assistant teachers, parents, alumni, professional dancers, and

recreational dancers.

Adult participants are not eligible to compete for Miss/Mr. Symposium Title or any other Title

competition.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to review and correct the age division of any entry that has been

entered incorrectly. All decisions regarding age classification are final.

AWARDS

Symposium Talent utilizes both Adjudication Awards and Placement Awards to recognize the

achievements of participating dancers and studios.

ADJUDICATION AWARDS

Each routine will receive an adjudication award based on its total score using the following point

scale:

Score - Adjudication

164.00 - 168.99 Silver

169.00 - 173.99 Gold

174.00 - 177.00 High Gold

177.01 - 180.00 Diamond

178.50 - 180.00 Signature Diamond (Elite Level Only)

Signature Diamond is Symposium Talent’s highest adjudication and is reserved exclusively for Elite

Level routines achieving a score of 178.50 or higher.

Adjudication awards recognize the overall quality of each performance based on the judges’

evaluations and are independent of placement awards.

PLACEMENT AWARDS

Placement awards are determined using Olympic-style scoring. The three (3) highest-scoring

routines within each entry type, age division, level, and category will receive:

 1st Place

 2nd Place

 3rd Place

Additional placement awards may be presented in divisions with a larger number of entries at the

discretion of Symposium Talent.

AWARD PRESENTATION

 Solo and Duo/Trio entries will receive an individual award for each participant.

 Group entries will receive one (1) group trophy.

 A ribbon will be presented to each dancer participating in a group routine.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to adjust award presentations, recognition, or award styles when

necessary due to event logistics, availability, or other operational considerations.

COLLECT OR CONTRIBUTE

Symposium Talent is proud to partner with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

(AFSP) through our Collect or Contribute program.

Studios may choose to collect their trophies during the awards ceremony or donate them back to

Symposium Talent. For every trophy contributed, Symposium Talent will donate $5.00 to the

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Participation is completely voluntary and may be selected on a ceremony-by-ceremony basis. Studios

wishing to participate must notify Symposium Talent by email no later than one (1) week prior to

the event.

HIGH POINT AWARDS

High Point Awards recognize the highest-scoring routines within each competitive level and age

division.

Solo & Duo/Trio High Point Awards

The highest-scoring Solo and Duo/Trio entries in each age division and competitive level will receive

High Point recognition as follows:

 Top 5 when there are nineteen (19) or fewer entries.

 Top 10 when there are twenty (20) to thirty-nine (39) entries.

 Top 15 when there are forty (40) or more entries.

Each participating dancer will receive an individual High Point medal.

If a dancer competes with multiple Solo or Duo/Trio entries, only their highest-scoring entry will be

eligible for Solo & Duo/Trio High Point Awards. (See Overall Soloist Awards below.)

Group High Point Awards

The highest-scoring Small Groups, Large Groups, Lines, and Productions in each age division and

competitive level will receive High Point recognition as follows:

 Top 5 when there are nineteen (19) or fewer entries.

 Top 10 when there are twenty (20) to thirty-nine (39) entries.

 Top 15 when there are forty (40) or more entries.

Each winning group will receive one (1) group trophy and ribbons for all participating dancers.

Cash prizes will be awarded only when there are at least three (3) entries in the applicable age

division and competitive level.

PRODUCTION HIGH POINT AWARDS

The highest-scoring 12 & Under Production and the highest-scoring 13 & Over Production in each

competitive level will receive Symposium Talent’s 4-Foot Production Championship Trophy.

There is no minimum entry requirement for Production High Point Awards.

OVERALL SOLOIST AWARDS

Overall Soloist Awards recognize dancers who demonstrate consistency and excellence across

multiple solo performances.

For dancers competing with more than one solo, the two highest solo adjudication scores will be

combined to determine one Overall Soloist score.

The Top Five (5) Overall Soloists will be recognized separately for:

 12 & Under

 13 & Over

within each competitive level.

GRAND OVERALL AWARDS

(National Events Only)

Grand Overall Awards recognize the highest-scoring entries across all entry types within each age

division and competitive level.

Eligible entry types include:

 Solo

 Duo/Trio

 Small Group

 Large Group

 Line

 Production

The Top Five (5) highest-scoring entries in each age division and competitive level will be

recognized.

For Grand Overall Awards, dancers competing in multiple Solo or Duo/Trio entries may receive only

one (1) Grand Overall placement.

Grand Overall Awards are presented exclusively at Symposium Talent National events and are not

eligible for cash prizes.

AWARD CREDITS, SCHOLARSHIPS & VOUCHERS

Unless otherwise specified, all registration credits, scholarships, vouchers, certificates, and similar

awards issued by Symposium Talent are awarded to the winning entry and are intended to be

applied only toward that same entry’s future registration.

Regional awards intended for National registration must be redeemed during the current competition

season at a Symposium Talent National event.

National awards intended for Regional registration must be redeemed during the following

competition season at a Symposium Talent Regional event.

Registration credits, scholarships, vouchers, certificates, and similar awards may not be transferred

to another entry, dancer, studio, entry type, competition, or event unless expressly authorized in

writing by Symposium Talent.

For example, a Production entry that earns a National registration credit must apply that credit toward

the registration fees for that same Production entry. The credit may not be applied toward Solo,

Duo/Trio, Title, Photogenic, Convention, Diamond Dancer, Superstar Challenge, Star Entertainer, or

any other registration fee or event.

All registration credits, scholarships, vouchers, certificates, and similar awards are non-transferable,

have no cash value, are not redeemable for cash, and are subject to any published expiration dates

and conditions established by Symposium Talent.

MISS & MR. SYMPOSIUM TITLE COMPETITION

The Miss & Mr. Symposium Title Competition recognizes dancers who demonstrate exceptional

stage presence, confidence, performance quality, personality, professionalism, and a positive

representation of the values of Symposium Talent.

TITLE DIVISIONS

 Mini Miss / Mr. Symposium: Eight (8) & Under

 Junior Miss / Mr. Symposium: Nine (9) to Twelve (12)

 Teen Miss / Mr. Symposium: Thirteen (13) to Fourteen (14)

 Miss / Mr. Symposium: Fifteen (15) to Nineteen (19)

Adult competitors are not eligible to participate in the Miss & Mr. Symposium Title

Competition.

Title participation is open to any registered Solo entry. Each dancer may enter up to three (3) Title

entries.

TITLE INTRODUCTION

Prior to performing, each Title contestant will take center stage and introduce themselves to the

judges.

Introductions may include the contestant’s name, age, hometown, title of their performance, and any

additional information they wish to share.

Studio names may not be mentioned during the introduction.

Introductions must be no less than ten (10) seconds and no more than thirty (30) seconds in

length. Contestants are encouraged to practice and time their introductions carefully.

TITLE JUDGING

Title contestants are evaluated separately from the routine adjudication process.

Each contestant will receive a Title Score out of thirty (30) points based on the judges’ overall

impression of the contestant as a Title representative. Judges may consider qualities such as stage

presence, confidence, personality, professionalism, performance quality, audience connection, and

the contestant’s overall ability to represent the values and spirit of Symposium Talent.

Routine adjudication scores are not used to determine Title winners.

If a contestant enters multiple Title entries, only the contestant’s highest Title Score will be used to

determine final Title placement.

All judges’ decisions are final.

Title winners will be crowned in each age division and each competitive level.

OVERALL LEVEL TITLE WINNERS

Following the selection of the age division Title winners, one (1) Overall Level Title Winner will be

selected for each competitive level.

The Overall Level Title Winner is determined by the highest Title Score earned among all age

division Title winners within that competitive level, regardless of age division or gender.

These awards represent the highest individual honor within each competitive level and recognize the

contestant who best exemplifies the values, professionalism, performance quality, and spirit of

A minimum of six (6) Title contestants must compete within a competitive level in order for an

Overall Level Title Winner to be awarded.

Each Overall Level Title Winner will receive:

 An Overall Level Title Award

 An invitation to compete in the Title Competition at a Symposium Talent National event

 A complimentary National Title Entry.

The complimentary award applies only to the National Title Entry fee and does not include the Solo

entry fee, National registration fees, convention fees, or any other event fees.

TITLE HONOR & RESPONSIBILITY

Being crowned Miss or Mr. Symposium is one of Symposium Talent’s highest individual honors.

Title winners are recognized not only for their performance on stage, but also for their character,

sportsmanship, confidence, professionalism, and the positive example they set for others. Miss & Mr.

Symposium titleholders are expected to represent the values of Symposium Talent with kindness,

integrity, respect, humility, and encouragement both on and off the stage. They serve as role models

within the dance community and ambassadors for the positive spirit of Symposium Talent.

TITLE AWARDS

Contestants must be present at the awards ceremony to be eligible to receive a Title award.

STAR ENTERTAINER CONTEST

The Star Entertainer Contest celebrates dancers who captivate an audience through exceptional

stage presence, personality, showmanship, confidence, and entertainment value.

Participation is open to all registered Solo entries.

Contestants do not perform an additional routine. The Solo entered into the Star Entertainer Contest

will be evaluated during its scheduled competition performance and receive a separate

Entertainment Score independent of the routine’s adjudication score.

Dancers may enter up to three (3) Solo entries in the Star Entertainer Contest.

Participation in the Star Entertainer Contest does not affect a dancer’s eligibility for the Miss & Mr.

Symposium Title Competition. A Solo may be entered in Title, Star Entertainer, or both

competitions.

STAR ENTERTAINER AWARDS

Regional events will recognize the Top Five (5) Star Entertainers in each of the following age

divisions:

 12 & Under

 13 & Over

Contestants must be present at the awards ceremony to receive Star Entertainer Awards.

SUPER TAP AWARD

The Super Tap Award is presented in honor of Symposium Talent Founder, Linda Joseph,

recognizing excellence in tap dance.

One (1) Super Tap Award will be presented to the highest-scoring Tap routine in each competitive

level:

The Super Tap Award is presented at both Regional and National events.

MOST PHOTOGENIC AWARDS

The Most Photogenic Competition recognizes outstanding photographs in two categories:

 Portrait – Showcasing personality, confidence, expression, and stage presence.

 Action Shot – Capturing the athleticism, artistry, energy, and emotion of dance.

The Top Three (3) entries in each category will be recognized.

The highest-placing 12 & Under and 13 & Over winner in each category will:

 Receive a cash award.

 Have their winning photograph featured on symposiumtalent.com.

National Awards

At National events, the highest-placing 12 & Under and 13 & Over winner in each category will:

 Receive an increased cash award.

 Have their winning photograph featured on symposiumtalent.com.

 Have their photograph published in the following season’s Symposium Talent Program Book.

If there are five (5) or more entries in both the 12 & Under and 13 & Over age divisions, a Top Three (3) will

be recognized in each age division, and each age division winner will receive a cash award.

Symposium Talent is honored to present several special awards that celebrate outstanding

performances while paying tribute to individuals whose lives and legacies continue to inspire our

dance community.

HOPE AWARD

The Hope Award is presented to the highest-scoring Mini entry.

Presented in memory of Cooper Panek, this award celebrates the joy, innocence, and promise of our

youngest performers.

A portion of the winning entry’s registration fees will be donated to the March of Dimes in Cooper’s

honor.

ANGEL AWARD

The Angel Award is presented to the highest-scoring Junior entry.

Presented in memory of Maggie Westphal, this award recognizes excellence while honoring

Maggie’s legacy.

A portion of the winning entry’s registration fees will be donated to a Sudden Infant Death

Syndrome (SIDS) organization in Maggie’s honor.

LIFELINE AWARD

The Lifeline Award is presented to the highest-scoring 13 & Over entry.

A portion of the winning entry’s registration fees will be donated to the American Foundation for

Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

The Lifeline Award serves as a reminder that compassion, hope, and the love of family and friends

can truly save lives. It recognizes excellence while encouraging kindness, connection, and support

throughout our dance community.

JUDGES’ CHOICE AWARDS

The Judges’ Choice Award is a special recognition presented at the sole discretion of each judge.

These awards honor dancers or entries that leave a lasting impression through exceptional performance, artistry, creativity, showmanship, storytelling, musicality, stage presence, sportsmanship, or another quality the judge believes deserves special recognition.

Judges’ Choice Awards are not based solely on score and may recognize performances that exemplify something unique, memorable, or inspiring. Judges may present a Judges’ Choice Award to an individual dancer or an entire group entry.

Each Judges’ Choice recipient will receive a personalized certificate signed by the presenting judge, along with a Judges’ Choice lapel pin for each participant.

Judges’ Choice Awards are presented at the sole discretion of the judges and are not guaranteed at every awards ceremony.

THE ENCORE EXPERIENCE

The Encore Experience is one of Symposium Talent’s signature events, created to celebrate the performances that leave a lasting impression on both the judges and the audience.

All registered Group entries are automatically eligible for consideration. No additional registration is required.

Throughout the competition, the judges will select one (1) Group entry from each participating studio that they believe best exemplifies outstanding entertainment value, audience connection, showmanship, creativity, stage presence, and overall performance excellence.

Selected entries will be invited to perform their routine a second time during the Encore Experience, where they will compete for the prestigious title of Best of Show.

Separate Encore Experience showcases will be presented for:

 12 & Under

 13 & Over

Following the Encore performances, the judges will select one (1) Best of Show winner in each age division.

Each Best of Show winner will receive:

 A Best of Show Banner

 A scholarship toward a Symposium Talent Fall Intensive

Selection for the Encore Experience is considered a special honor and recognizes performances that captivate an audience through exceptional artistry, entertainment, and stage presence. While technical ability is important, judges are encouraged to recognize performances that create memorable moments and leave a lasting impression.

SYMPOSIUM SUPERSTAR CHALLENGE

The Symposium Superstar Challenge is an exciting optional event designed to celebrate individuality, creativity, confidence, and performance.

Participation is open to dancers of all ages and competitive levels. Registration will remain open until the start of the event.

During the challenge, each contestant will perform an improvised freestyle to approximately twenty (20) to thirty (30) seconds of music selected by Symposium Talent. The length of the music may vary depending on the number of participants.

Contestants are encouraged to showcase their personality, creativity, musicality, stage presence, and performance quality while having fun and entertaining the audience.

No choreography is required, and dancers may perform any appropriate dance style or combination of styles.

The Top Three (3) performers will be recognized in each age division.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to divide participants into age divisions or combine age divisions when necessary based on the number of entries.

SPECIAL PERFORMANCE AWARDS

Symposium Talent presents three (3) Special Performance Awards during each awards session for both the 12 & Under and 13 Over divisions.

These awards are selected by the Symposium Talent judges and staff and recognize entries that exemplify exceptional achievement in one of the following areas:

 Stage Presence

 Choreography

 Sportsmanship

These awards celebrate performances that leave a lasting impression through outstanding artistry, creativity, audience connection, teamwork, and positive representation of the spirit of dance.

SYMPOSIUM AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

The Symposium Ambassador Program recognizes dancers who exemplify the talent, leadership, character, and positive spirit of Symposium Talent.

Throughout the competition season, judges may nominate dancers who demonstrate exceptional performance quality, sportsmanship, professionalism, leadership, and a positive attitude both on and off the stage.

A judge’s nomination is an invitation to apply and does not guarantee selection as a Symposium Ambassador.

Nominated dancers may submit an Ambassador application through August 31 of the current competition season. Each application must include a written recommendation from the dancer’s studio owner or teacher.

Selected Symposium Ambassadors have opportunities throughout the season to:

 Attend designated Symposium Talent events as Ambassadors.

 Train with Symposium faculty through exclusive Ambassador classes and educational experiences.

 Participate in professional photo and video shoots.

 Represent Symposium Talent through promotional appearances, special events, and social media opportunities.

 Develop leadership skills while serving as positive role models within the dance community.

The Ambassador Program seeks dancers who not only demonstrate technical excellence, but who also embrace creativity, confidence, leadership, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zone while inspiring others.

Participation requirements, program benefits, event opportunities, and Ambassador expectations are determined annually by Symposium Talent and will be communicated to selected Ambassadors.

Complete application details and nomination information will be emailed to the studio owner of each nominated dancer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Dancers nominated for the Symposium Ambassador Program should meet the following qualifications:

 Be thirteen (13) years of age or older.

 Compete primarily in the Elite competitive level.

 Participate in the Symposium Superstar Challenge during the current competition season.

 Consistently demonstrate outstanding character, sportsmanship, professionalism, leadership, kindness, and respect for others throughout the competition season.

 Submit a completed Ambassador application accompanied by a written recommendation from their studio owneror teacher.

While these qualifications are strongly encouraged, Symposium Talent recognizes that exceptional candidates may not meet every criterion. Final Ambassador selections are made at the sole discretion of Symposium Talent.

DIAMOND DANCER PROGRAM

The Diamond Dancer Program is one of Symposium Talent’s premier National experiences, celebrating dancers who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, artistry, and achievement throughout the Regional season.

More than just a performance opportunity, the Diamond Dancer Program provides participants with a unique educational experience through choreography, rehearsals, live performance, and professional video production while creating lasting memories with dancers from studios across the country.

The Diamond Dancer Program is designed to challenge, inspire, and connect dancers from different studios while celebrating excellence, teamwork, and a shared passion for dance.

DIAMOND DANCER INVITATIONS

Dancers may qualify for the Diamond Dancer Program in one of the following ways:

 Any Solo, Duo, or Trio receiving a Diamond Adjudication at a Symposium Talent Regional Competition will automatically receive a Diamond Dancer Invitation.

 Any dancer receiving a Diamond Dancer Invitation as a Judges’ Award during a Symposium Talent Regional Competition will also qualify.

Participation in the Diamond Dancer Program is optional.

DIAMOND DANCER SHOWCASE

Diamond Dancer choreography will be emailed to registered studios prior to Nationals, allowing dancers ample time to learn and prepare before they arrive at their event.

Participating dancers and studio owners will receive detailed information regarding choreography, rehearsal schedules, attire, performance expectations, and additional event details leading up to their selected National event.

The Diamond Dancer Showcase is performed live during Nationals and primarily features Jazz choreography. Additional Hip Hop and Tap choreography may be incorporated exclusively for the Diamond Dancer Video Shoot.

Participation in rehearsals is essential to the success of the showcase. Dancers are expected to arrive prepared, attend all scheduled rehearsals, and actively participate throughout the rehearsal process.

DIAMOND DANCER VIDEO SHOOT

Diamond Dancers are encouraged to participate in the official Diamond Dancer Video Shoot, held on Friday evening following Convention classes.

This professionally produced video provides dancers with the opportunity to showcase their talent while working alongside Symposium Talent faculty and the Diamond Dancer choreographer in a fun, energetic, and collaborative environment.

Symposium Talent faculty will provide coaching, encouragement, and performance direction throughout the filming process to help dancers perform with confidence and create an exciting final production.

The majority of filming is scheduled for Friday evening, allowing dancers to focus on their competition performances throughout the remainder of the National event.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Participation requirements, rehearsal schedules, choreography access, showcase details, and video shoot information will be communicated to participating studios prior to Nationals.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to modify rehearsal schedules, choreography, performance formats, video production plans, or other Diamond Dancer activities when necessary to ensure the best possible experience for all participants.

UNCLAIMED AWARDS

Studios are responsible for collecting all awards before the conclusion of the event.

Awards not claimed before the close of the event will be considered forfeited.

Symposium Talent does not mail awards.

MUSIC, BACKUP MUSIC & TIME LIMITS

MUSIC SUBMISSION

All music must be uploaded through the Symposium Talent registration system no later than three (3) days prior to the start of the competition weekend.

It is the responsibility of the studio owner to verify that each uploaded music file is:

 The correct music for the entry.

 Properly labeled with the correct routine number and routine title.

 Complete, playable, and free from defects or file corruption.

Studios are strongly encouraged to review every uploaded music file before submission.

Symposium Talent is not responsible for incorrect uploads, mislabeled files, corrupted files, incomplete tracks, or any delays, deductions, scratches, or interruptions resulting from improperly submitted music.

Failure to properly upload music may result in delays to the competition schedule and may result in deductions or the entry being unable to perform.

BACKUP MUSIC

Every studio is required to provide one (1) approved form of backup music prior to the start of each competition session.

Failure to provide an approved backup music source may result in the entry being scratched without refund or credit.

Approved Backup Options

iPhone / iPod​ or flash drive

Studios choosing to use an iPhone or iPod as backup music must:

 Create a dedicated Symposium Talent playlist labeled with the studio code.

 Clearly label each track with the routine number and routine title.

 Leave the device with the DJ for the duration of the competition session.

 Ensure the device remains unlocked with Auto-Lock disabled.

 Place the device in Do Not Disturb or Airplane Mode throughout the session.

The Symposium Talent sound technician will not:

 Search for songs.

 Rename or reorganize playlists.

 Unlock devices.

 Accept emailed, texted, or electronically transferred music during the event.

Failure to meet these requirements may result in the backup music being rejected.

Flash Drive

Studios may use a Flash Drive as their backup music.

Each music file must be clearly labeled with:

 Routine Number

 Studio Code

 Routine Title

Improperly labeled Flash Drives may be rejected.

MUSIC FAILURE

If an uploaded music file cannot be played and an approved backup music source is not available, the entry will be considered a scratch, and no refund or credit will be issued.

It is the sole responsibility of the studio owner to ensure that all uploaded music and backup music are accurate, complete, and functional prior to the competition.

APPROPRIATE MUSIC

Symposium Talent is committed to providing a positive, family-friendly environment for dancers and spectators.

Music selections should be age-appropriate and free from excessive profanity, explicit language, sexually suggestive content, or other material that may be considered inappropriate for a family audience.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to issue deductions, adjudicate an entry only, require music to be edited or replaced, or disqualify an entry whose music is determined to be inappropriate. All such decisions are made at the sole discretion of Symposium Talent.

QUESTIONS

Studios with questions regarding music uploads or backup music requirements are encouraged to contact the Symposium Talent office prior to the event.

TIME LIMITS

To help ensure the competition runs on schedule and provides every studio with a fair opportunity to perform, the following maximum performance times apply:

Performance time begins when the music starts and ends when the music ends.

Studios should ensure that all music stops immediately upon completion of the performance. Exit

music is considered part of the performance and will be included in the total performance time.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to time any performance using its official timing system. All

timing decisions made by Symposium Talent are final.

OVERTIME FEES

Entries exceeding the maximum performance time will be assessed the following overtime fees:

0 to 60 seconds - $4.00 per dancer

61 to 120 seconds - $6.00 per dancer

121 to 180 seconds - $8.00 per dancer

181 seconds or more - $10.00 per dancer

Overtime fees must be paid before the ​s​tart of the event.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to refuse future registrations, withhold awards or score sheets

until outstanding overtime fees are paid, or assess additional penalties for repeated or excessive

violations.

SPECIAL TRICKS

Symposium Talent encourages choreography that reflects the style and technique of each

performance category.

Certain dance movements are permitted in all categories and are not considered Special Tricks.

These include:

 Splits

 Leaps

 Jumps

 Cartwheels

 Standard dance movements and transitions

A Special Trick is defined as an acrobatic or gymnastics skill that is not considered a standard dance

movement. Examples include, but are not limited to:

 Aerials

 Back Handsprings

 Back Tucks

 Front Tucks

 Running Round-Off Back Handsprings

 Backbend Kickovers

 Rows of Walkovers

 Other advanced acrobatic or gymnastics skills

Tumbling Passes

A tumbling pass consisting of two (2) or more consecutive Special Tricks will be counted as one

(1) Special Trick.

Example: Round-Off → Back Handspring → Back Tuck = One (1) Special Trick

Group Entries

For Duo/Trio and Group entries, the permitted number of Special Tricks applies per performer.

Special Tricks do not have to be distributed evenly among the dancers; however, each individual

dancer must remain within the maximum number of Special Tricks permitted for the category.

Dance Movements

The following movements have become common elements of dance technique and will not be

counted as Special Tricks when performed as part of dance choreography:

 Walkovers

 Shoulder Rolls

 Chest Rolls

 Similar transitional dance movements

However, advanced acrobatic variations such as multiple consecutive walkovers, backbend

kickovers, aerials, back handsprings, and comparable skills will be considered Special Tricks.

It is the responsibility of the studio owner and choreographer to ensure each entry complies with the

Special Trick limitations for its performance category.

Entries exceeding the permitted number of Special Tricks may receive deductions or other

penalties at the judges’ and Symposium Talent’s sole discretion. All decisions regarding Special

Tricks are final.

CRITIQUES & SCORES

Video critiques, judges’ score sheets, adjudication results, and overall placements will be available

through the DanceBug Studio Dashboard following the competition.

Symposium Talent’s goal is to have all critiques, score sheets, and results uploaded by Tuesday

following each event. However, upload times may vary depending on travel schedules, internet

availability, weather conditions, and other unforeseen circumstances.

Studios will receive access to their materials as soon as processing has been completed. Symposium

Talent appreciates your patience and understanding should circumstances require additional

processing time.

If critiques or score sheets have not been posted by the end of the week following the event, studio

owners are encouraged to contact the Symposium Talent office.

SYMPOSIUM NATIONAL GRAND FINALS

The Symposium National Grand Finals is the culminating championship event of Nationals,

showcasing the most entertaining and memorable performances of the weekend.

Advancement to the Grand Finals is based on overall entertainment value, audience connection,

stage presence, showmanship, and performance quality, as determined by the judges. While

technical excellence is important, Grand Finals celebrates performances that leave a lasting

impression.

SOLO, DUO/TRIO GRAND FINALS

At the conclusion of the Solo, Duo, and Trio competition, judges will nominate outstanding entries

from each Age Division and Competitive Level.

From those nominations, judges will select up to three (3) entries in each Age Division and

Competitive Level to advance to the Solo, Duo/Trio Grand Finals.

Separate Grand Finals will be conducted for:

 12 & Under

 13 & Over

within each Competitive Level:

 Fearless

 Classic

 Select

 Elite

Each studio may advance only one (1) entry per Age Division and Competitive Level.

Qualifying entries will perform their routine a second time to compete for the title of Grand Finals

Champion.

To conduct a Grand Finals Championship within an Age Division and Competitive Level, there must

be a minimum of five (5) entries representing at least three (3) different studios.

Qualifying entries will be announced following the completion of the Solo, Duo, and Trio competition.

All Grand Finals qualifiers will be recognized during the Solo, Duo, and Trio Awards Ceremony.

Each Grand Finals Champion will receive a Grand Finals Champion Banner.

GROUP GRAND FINALS

At the conclusion of the Group competition, judges will nominate outstanding Group entries from each

Age Division and Competitive Level.

From those nominations, judges will select up to three (3) entries in each Age Division and

Competitive Level to advance to the Symposium National Group Grand Finals.

Separate Grand Finals will be conducted for:

CELEBRATING THE GRAND FINALS

The Symposium National Grand Finals is designed to celebrate outstanding performances while

bringing together dancers, families, and studios for an exciting championship finale.

All dancers, families, and studio members are encouraged to remain through the conclusion of the

event to cheer on the finalists, celebrate one another’s accomplishments, and experience one of

Symposium Talent’s signature National traditions.

Grand Finals embodies the spirit of Symposium Talent by encouraging sportsmanship, community,

and the celebration of excellence both on and off the stage.

DIAMOND DANCER SHOWCASE

The Diamond Dancer Showcase proudly opens the Group Awards Ceremonies on both Saturday

and Sunday at Symposium Talent Nationals.

This inspiring performance features dancers from studios across the country coming together to

showcase the choreography they have learned throughout the Diamond Dancer Program.

The Diamond Dancer Showcase celebrates excellence, collaboration, and the friendships formed

through a shared passion for dance. It is one of Symposium Talent’s signature National traditions and

serves as a memorable kickoff to each Group Awards Ceremony.

We encourage all dancers, families, and studio members to arrive early and join us in celebrating

these outstanding performers.

LIABILITY, TERMS OF PARTICIPATION & LEGAL AGREEMENT

By registering for or attending any Symposium Talent event, the registering studio, studio owner,

director, teacher, participants, parents, legal guardians, spectators, and guests acknowledge that they

have read, understand, and agree to abide by these Rules and Regulations.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK

Participation in dance activities and attendance at live events involve inherent risks. By entering or

attending a Symposium Talent event, all participants, spectators, studio owners, directors, teachers,

parents, legal guardians, and guests voluntarily assume all risks associated with attendance and

participation.

Symposium Talent, LLC, its owners, employees, contractors, staff, agents, sponsors, venues, hotels,

theaters, and event facilities shall not be liable for any injury, illness, death, accident, loss, theft, or

damage to persons or property arising from participation in or attendance at any Symposium Talent

event, except as otherwise required by applicable law.

VENUE CONDITIONS

Symposium Talent does not own or control the facilities in which its events are held and cannot

guarantee the condition of stages, floors, dressing rooms, or other venue areas. Participants

acknowledge these risks and assume responsibility for their own safety while using such facilities.

The studio owner, director, teacher, or designated representative is solely responsible for ensuring

that all dancers, parents, instructors, and attendees affiliated with their studio understand and comply

with Symposium Talent’s Rules and Regulations, venue policies, and safety requirements.

PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO & MEDIA RELEASE

Attendance or participation in any Symposium Talent event constitutes permission for Symposium

Talent to photograph, record, livestream, and otherwise capture the likeness, image, voice, and

performances of participants and attendees.

Symposium Talent may use such photographs, videos, recordings, and other media without

compensation for promotional, advertising, educational, archival, or commercial purposes in any

format, including but not limited to websites, social media, printed materials, television, streaming

platforms, newsletters, brochures, advertisements, and future marketing materials.

PERSONAL PROPERTY

Symposium Talent assumes no responsibility for lost, stolen, damaged, or unclaimed personal

property, including but not limited to costumes, awards, electronic devices, photographs, media,

personal belongings, or other valuables.

Lost and found items will not be mailed following the event.

COPYRIGHT & PERFORMANCE RIGHTS

Symposium Talent, its staff, photographers, videographers, and contractors will not become involved

in disputes regarding choreography, music licensing, copyrights, trademarks, costumes, or other

intellectual property matters.

By submitting entries, the registering studio represents and warrants that it has obtained all

necessary rights, licenses, permissions, and authorizations for all music, choreography, costumes,

and other copyrighted or protected materials used in competition.

The registering studio agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Symposium Talent, LLC from any claim

arising out of the unauthorized use of copyrighted or licensed materials.

EVENT POSTPONEMENT & CANCELLATION

Symposium Talent will make every reasonable effort to reschedule any event that must be postponed.

If an event is successfully rescheduled, all registrations and fees will automatically transfer to the new

event date. No refunds or credits will be issued for rescheduled events.

If Symposium Talent is ultimately forced to cancel an event and rescheduling is not possible,

Symposium Talent will contact each affected studio directly to determine an appropriate resolution

based upon the circumstances and timing of the cancellation.

FORCE MAJEURE

Symposium Talent shall not be liable for any delay, interruption, postponement, cancellation, or failure

to perform its obligations when caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control. Such

circumstances include, but are not limited to, acts of God, severe weather, natural disasters, fire,

flood, epidemic or pandemic, public health emergencies, governmental orders or restrictions, war,

terrorism, civil unrest, labor disputes, utility failures, internet or communication outages, venue

closures, transportation disruptions, or any other event beyond Symposium Talent’s reasonable

control.

Under such circumstances, Symposium Talent may postpone, reschedule, modify, relocate, or cancel

an event as necessary. Studios and participants acknowledge these risks and waive any claim for

damages arising from such delays, modifications, postponements, relocations, or cancellations.

RELEASE & INDEMNIFICATION

By registering for or participating in a Symposium Talent event, the registering studio, studio owner,

director, teacher, participants, parents, and legal guardians agree to release, waive, defend,

indemnify, and hold harmless Symposium Talent, LLC, its owners, officers, employees, contractors,

agents, sponsors, affiliates, venues, and representatives from and against any and all claims,

demands, liabilities, damages, losses, expenses, court costs, attorney’s fees, judgments, or causes of

action arising out of or relating to participation in any Symposium Talent event, except where

prohibited by applicable law.

Participation in Symposium Talent events is voluntary and undertaken entirely at the participant’s own

risk.

REGISTRATION AGREEMENT, PERSONAL PAYMENT OBLIGATION & GOVERNING LAW

Submission of a registration constitutes a legally binding agreement with Symposium Talent, LLC.

The individual submitting the registration, whether acting as the studio owner, director, teacher,

manager, employee, or other representative (“Registrant”), represents and warrants that they are

authorized to register the studio and enter into this Agreement.

By submitting a registration, the Registrant expressly and individually agrees to be personally

responsible for the payment of all registration fees, late fees, returned check fees, collection

costs, court costs, reasonable attorney’s fees (where permitted by law), interest (where

permitted by law), and any other amounts owed to Symposium Talent, LLC. This personal

payment obligation is in addition to any obligation of the studio or business entity and shall 

survive any change in studio ownership, employment status, business structure, withdrawal

from the event, or failure to attend.

Registration constitutes acceptance of all Symposium Talent Rules and Regulations. Once a

registration is submitted, all registration fees become due according to Symposium Talent’s published

payment schedule and remain payable regardless of whether the studio or any participant withdraws,

cancels, changes ownership, ceases operations, or elects not to attend, except where expressly

provided otherwise within these Rules and Regulations.

Symposium Talent reserves the right to deny participation, withhold awards, photographs, videos,

adjudications, scores, future registrations, or other services until all outstanding balances have been

paid in full.

Should any balance remain unpaid, Symposium Talent may pursue all remedies available under

applicable law, including collection of the unpaid balance, interest where permitted by law, court

costs, collection agency fees, and reasonable attorney’s fees.

The prevailing party in any legal action or proceeding arising out of or relating to this Agreement shall

be entitled to recover its reasonable attorney’s fees, court costs, litigation expenses, and any other

relief permitted by law.

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of

Missouri, without regard to its conflict of law principles.

The Registrant knowingly agrees that any claim, lawsuit, or legal proceeding arising out of or relating

to this Agreement or any Symposium Talent event shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal

courts located within the State of Missouri. The Registrant expressly consents to the exclusive

jurisdiction and venue of those courts and waives any objection based upon venue, inconvenience of

forum, or lack of personal jurisdiction.
